Westfields Lodge was a 16-bedroom hostel facility with communal kitchens and bathrooms, which has 42 bed spaces. Built in the 1920s the property is not suited to modern purposes and will require redevelopment within the next 10 years.

OSM on behalf of QED Sustainable Urban Developments created a free-standing interim extension to the hostel adjacent to the original building using a demountable modular system. The extension comprises of 5 one-bedroom, 7 two-bedroom and 3 three-bedroom apartments that accommodate up to 86 individuals.

As a temporary structure the extension does not compromise the future redevelopment of the hostel as the apartments can be easily deployed elsewhere in the borough following refurbishment of the entire site.

Contracted works include:

  • - Principal contractor, responsible for overall site management and HSE compliance
  • - Above and below ground storm and foul drainage
  • - Foundations and steel structure installation
  • - Oversaw and controlled modular installation
  • - Mechanical and electrical installation and connection
  • - Hard and soft landscaping
  • - Access control
